Photo of Jorden Family, Wes, Katie, newborn son and dogMark “Wes” Jorden, an IBB Local 374 member, doesn’t have a lot of extra time on his hands. It’s difficult enough for him to balance his 80-hour work weeks and a newborn son which fill his days and nights.

Still, Wes, of Hammond, IN, thinks that there’s no better use of the spare time he has than by pursuing a bachelor’s degree in Construction Management online through National Labor College.

“Last summer, my wife and I checked out NLC. We met with the faculty and talked with a coordinator. We liked it right away and it has turned out to be a great decision,” says the five-year member of the International Brotherhood of Boilermakers (IBB).

NLC is the ideal choice for working people who want to finish their degrees. It’s not easy to finish college, but it’s well worth it.

Image of Don DudleyThe proudest day of Don Dudley’s life was the day he showed his college degree to his mother. His life had taken some unexpected turns, but she had never lost faith—telling him that she’d always known he’d graduate one day.

More importantly, Don didn’t lose faith in himself—even after dropping out of high school.

“If I can change my life around to pull up out of the gutter and end up with a college degree, anyone can do it—just don’t stop believing in yourself,” says Don, who worked his way up to be an NLC instructor.

Because Don took the same courses as his students, he can help them work through the difficulties of being a tradesman or woman in the classroom.

With unemployment hovering just under 13 percent in Nevada, Alex found himself part of that dreaded statistic. After the initial sting of being laid off, he set out to finish what he started years before: earning his degree in Business Administration.
